The Personal Development Workshops are the key component of The Academy, and are designed to prepare our youth for high school success, manhood, and college access. Additionally, ALP engages the young men with discussion about politics, popular culture, and current events. Below are titles and brief descriptions of some of the monthly ALP workshops:
Building Academic Success
The purpose of the workshop is to discuss study strategies and the mindset needed to succeed academically.
Visualizing Your Future through Goal Setting Vision-Boarding
The purpose of the workshop is for students to learn about the importance of setting goals and being surrounded by positive and empowering messages.
Understanding Stereotypes, Bias, and Prejudice
The purpose of the workshops is to teach and discuss concepts of identity, bias, and stereotypes, and how they play into the daily lives of young men.
Building Positive Relationships and Connections
The purpose of the workshop is to examine and discuss the importance of building and maintaining strong peer-to-peer, parent, coach, and other relationships.
The purpose of the workshop is to discuss what characteristics are commonly found in responsible men.
